Election Results 2012

Here are the results of our recent election. These officers’ term will begin September 1, 2012 and continue until August 31, 2014.


President:  Michael Weinstein, Teachers College Press        

Vice President:  Steve Bedney, Ecological Fibers

Treasurer:  Marv Dunkiel, Automated Graphics Systems

Financial Secretary:  Emily Larsen

Recording Secretary: Kristen Eckhardt, Penguin Group, USA


Congratulations to the newly-elected and incumbent members of our board!


Michael Weinstein is a member of the Publishing Executive Hall of Fame and has 35 years of experience in production, manufacturing, content management and change management.  He is currently Production Director for Teachers College Press. Previously, he was Vice President, Global Content and Media Production for Cengage Learning. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Production and Manufacturing for Oxford University Press, Pearson/Prentice Hall, Worth Publishers and HarperCollins. In those capacities, he has been a leader in managing process and content for delivery in as many ways possible.

Steve Bedney has been a fixture in the publishing community for more than thirty years, first as a production/manufacturing/editorial manager on the publishing side for many years, and more recently as a sales rep for Ecological Fibers for eight years. He has been actively involved with the Book Industry / Bookbinder's Guild for twenty years, and has chaired the education, program, charity, Book Show, and newsletter committees at various times, some of which are ongoing. Steve has been on the Board for many years and has been a past Guild president after also having been secretary and vice president.

Marv Dunkiel, Treasurer, brings experience in book, commercial, magazine, content services, catalog and P-O-D printing. His responsibilities have included managing multiple shift composition operations, sales management for multiple plant locations, budgets, profitability, purchasing operations, and negotiations of print and composition service contracts. Although Marv now serves on the executive board of the Book Industry Guild of New York as Treasurer, in the past he has been the Chair and Co-chair of the Guild’s program committee.

Emily Larsen, who is currently Financial Secretary, was formerly an Account Executive for FiberMark North America.  She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and resides in Astoria, Queens with her husband and 2 rabbits. In addition to being Financial Secretary, Emily leads ticketing for all of our events and programs, and sits on our Book Show Committee, and is heavily involved with our website.  

Kristen Eckhardt hails from Tampa, Florida and has survived two successful winters in the Northeast. She earned bachelor’s degrees from The University of Florida in Editing and The University of South Florida in graphic design. She also attended New York University’s Masters in Publishing program. She is currently a production assistant for Penguin Young Readers. Kristen enjoys designing, reading, NYC, and drinking too much coffee.
